Update: New Firmware Available for Three Lumix Micro Four Thirds Cameras, Previously Overlooked

In a move aimed at enhancing the long-term performance and reliability of its Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras, Panasonic has rolled out new firmware updates for the Lumix GH7 (Ver.1.4), G9 II (Ver.2.4), and GH5 II (Ver.1.4).

The primary focus of these updates is to strengthen the security of the cameras, protecting them from vulnerabilities such as unauthorized access or data interception during Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and USB connections, as well as in their integration with Lumix mobile apps. Operational stability enhancements mean fewer crashes, bugs, and glitches, resulting in a smoother shooting experience for both stills and video capture.

Unfortunately, these updates do not introduce any flashy new features. Instead, they emphasize reliability and secure network handling to safeguard the devices and enhance user confidence during connectivity and everyday use.

Certain features have been intentionally removed post-update for some GH5II users, including the wired LAN streaming feature (RTP/RTSP) and the image transfer feature to PC via Wi-Fi. European models of the GH5 II also see the removal of the streaming feature via RTMP and the Wi-Fi Password menu for password-less Wi-Fi connection. The No Encryption option in network authentication is no longer supported when connecting to Wi-Fi via an access point on the GH5 II, with the Wi-Fi connection between the GH5 II camera and smartphone now requiring password authentication.

It is advisable to wait for a week or two after a firmware update before installing it to ensure everything runs smoothly and community feedback is positive. Users of different Lumix models can check the last firmware rollout to see if their camera is due for an update.
