Upgrading the silicon battery anode in NEO's P-300N product
**Canadian Company Introduces High-Performance Silicon Anode Material**
Canada-based NEO Battery Materials has unveiled NBMSiDE P-300N, a cost-competitive silicon anode material designed for next-generation batteries in both mobility and stationary energy storage markets.
The P-300N is engineered to offer high capacity, a significant advantage for applications demanding more energy storage per unit weight or volume, such as electric vehicles (EVs) and large-scale energy storage systems. It is also designed with long-term stability, addressing one of the key challenges in silicon-based anodes—cycling durability and performance retention over many charge-discharge cycles.
The material boasts a reinforced polymer coating network that aids in mechanical stress dissipation without compromising conductivity. This feature enhances battery stability while delivering an average coulombic efficiency (CE) of over 99.8%.
NEO has produced two variations of NBMSiDE P-300N to meet different industry needs. The high-stability variant provides a balance of cycle performance and capacity, delivering an average CE of over 99.8% and approximately 2,000 mAh/g in initial capacity.
The P-300N is being developed for applications that demand high capacity with ultra-fast charging and discharging capabilities. A high CE over the first 50 cycles is required for high capacity retention in long battery performance tests.
The company is currently conducting tests to meet the requirements of applications that require high capacity, long-term stability, ultra-fast charging, and discharging. After small-scale optimization, NEO plans to manufacture near-commercial battery cells with 3 to 5 Ah capacities.
NEO is collaborating with global players in the battery value chain for the production of these near-commercial battery cells. The composite layer coating on the silicon particle in NBMSiDE P-300N offers enhanced protection against direct contact with the electrolyte, further contributing to its durability.
The P-300N is a low-cost, competitive solution for applications in EVs, energy storage, electronics, power tools, drones, and unmanned aerial vehicles. Its introduction marks a significant step towards improving the performance and affordability of batteries in various industries.
