Vietnam's Digital Transformation Boosts Weather Resilience
Vietnam, facing severe weather events like Typhoon Yagi and Bualoi, is bolstering its resilience through digital transformation. The Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) and local partners have installed smart flood warning systems, empowering communities and reducing losses.
In Hóa Quỳ Commune, Thanh Hóa Province, a pilot smart flood warning tower was set up with ADC's support. It automatically triggers alerts via loudspeakers when floodwater levels become dangerous. Residents now feel more secure and able to respond to potential emergencies.
The system uses the Vrain mobile application, providing real-time data and enabling proactive responses to natural disasters. During the Kajiki storm, this technology helped in quick evacuation and reduced crop damage. Local authorities and residents actively use the app to stay informed and prepared.
Digital transformation, including early warning systems and community preparedness, has proven effective in Vietnam's battle against severe weather events. By providing real-time data and empowering residents, these initiatives reduce losses and improve recovery. The success of the pilot project in Hóa Quỳ Commune encourages further expansion of these life-saving technologies.
