WhatsApp Brings Offline Translation to 19 Languages for iPhone Users
WhatsApp, the popular messaging app with over three billion users worldwide, is introducing a new translation feature. Starting September 23, iPhone users can translate messages into over 19 languages, with more languages to follow. Android users initially have access to six languages for translation.
The translation feature, available in individual chats, groups, and channels, allows users to long-press a message, select 'translate', and choose a language. Once downloaded, the corresponding language pack is stored for future use. For Android users, an automatic setting translates all incoming messages in a chat. Notably, Android users currently lack the auto-translation feature for languages like German.
Translations occur completely offline, ensuring data protection. WhatsApp cannot access the messages during the translation process.
WhatsApp's translation feature, rolling out in phases, will initially cover over 19 languages for iPhone users and six for Android. It aims to break language barriers in conversations, making communication more accessible across the globe.
