WhatsApp Launches In-Chat Translation for Seamless Cross-Language Communication
WhatsApp is bolstering its functionality with a new in-app text message translation tool. The feature, currently rolling out to users, enables instant language conversion in chats, making it particularly useful for international teams, travellers, and multicultural communities.
The new translation option, available on both Android and iOS, facilitates seamless communication across language barriers. At launch, Android users can select from six languages - English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic - while iOS users have access to over 19 languages.
For Android users, a standout feature is the ability to set entire chat threads to be automatically translated. This means all messages in the chat will be converted to the user's preferred language, simplifying cross-language communication. Frequently used languages can also be downloaded and stored locally for quicker translations, even without an internet connection.
WhatsApp's new translation feature works in individual and group chats, as well as in channel messages, making it a versatile tool for users worldwide. The rollout is gradual, with Android users currently enjoying the initial six language options, and iOS users benefiting from a broader range. As the feature becomes more widely available, it promises to break down language barriers and facilitate more inclusive conversations.
