Patrick Witt Appointed as New Executive Director of White House Crypto Council

Patrick Witt, a former Pentagon technology official and Trump administration policy veteran, has been appointed as the new executive director of the White House Crypto Council. The announcement was made following the departure of Bo Hines, who held the role for nearly eight months.

Witt previously served as deputy director of the White House Crypto Council and is currently acting director at the Department of Defense’s Office of Strategic Capital (OSC), which manages investments in critical technologies. His appointment comes as the U.S. looks to position itself as a leader in the crypto industry.

Before his involvement with the Crypto Council, Witt served as Deputy Chief of Staff at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management during President Donald Trump’s first term. He also has a unique background combining government policy, national security expertise, and a personal connection to the previous executive director Bo Hines through their shared history as Yale football players.

Although Witt does not have a direct background in the crypto industry, he views digital assets as an important strategic tool for economic growth and modern statecraft. At the Bitcoin Policy Summit in June, Wit discussed advancing the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (SBR) initiative as part of a broader organized policy effort to position the U.S. as the “crypto capital of the world” and to influence the next-generation financial system.

Bo Hines' departure was announced in an X post, where he described the role as the "honor of a lifetime." Eleanor Terrett, journalist and co-host of the podcast Crypto in America, confirmed that Witt is expected to step into the role of executive director. David Sacks, White House A.I. and Crypto Czar, thanked Bo Hines for his efforts and recognized Patrick Witt in his remarks.

With Witt's appointment, the White House Crypto Council is poised to continue its work in shaping the future of the crypto industry, aligning crypto policy with statecraft and economic strategy.
