Wim Remes Drives Change as (ISC)² Chair, Focusing on Diversity and Relevance

Wim Remes, a former banker, was elected as chair of the International Information Security Certification Consortium, or (ISC)², in 2020. Since then, he has been driving change and growth within the organization.

Remes, who joined the board in 2012, initially faced skepticism but has since proven himself as a valuable leader. He believes that certification validates knowledge and experience but should not be a job requirement. Instead, he focuses on providing maximum value to (ISC)² members and integrating the organization with the wider security community.

Diversity is another key focus for Remes. He hopes to see more women and a broader range of professionals joining the information security workforce. Currently, the largest (ISC)² chapter is in South Korea with 5500 active members, while the smallest is in Ethiopia with just six members, highlighting the global reach and varied makeup of the organization.

Remes predicts that the supply-demand gap for information security professionals will continue to grow. His greatest achievement as chair is working effectively with a diverse range of people, a skill he honed in his previous roles as a banker and financial professional. He considers the industry welcoming to new entrants and is committed to keeping the (ISC)² curriculum up-to-date and relevant.

Under Wim Remes' leadership, (ISC)² continues to grow and adapt. With a focus on diversity, relevance, and member value, Remes aims to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of the information security industry.
