Winners Unveiled in the 2019 Opus Awards!

Updated Award Prizes Announcement

It's that time of year again! The "Opus - German Stage Prize" is back, and it's dishing out accolades to two outstanding projects. Buckle up for a unique dive into the worlds of theater and lighting design, where cutting-edge technology merges with artistic vision.

Category Theatre - artistic and technical realization: "The parallel universe"

Imagine two stages in two theaters, two auditoriums in two cities seemingly becoming one reality. The play "The parallel universe" tells a mesmerizing tale of life's journey, with both stages presenting the narrative in opposite directions (birth to death, death to birth). The storylines meet only once in the middle of the show, creating a mind-bending crossover point that challenges our understanding of nature and reality.

With seven actors on stage at Schauspiel Dortmund and seven at Berliner Ensemble, this production takes advantage of advanced technology. The actors are filmed and equipped with microphones, enabling live projection of their movements and dialogues on the opposite city's screen. Concurrently, audiences in each city follow the "real" events unfolding on their respective stages, experiencing a mere 0.3-second delay in the transmission.

Kay Voges, the brilliant mind behind this production, has consistently pushed the boundaries of theater arts by integrating modern media into the narrative, creating a breathtaking sensory experience for spectators.

Category Tour - Lighting Design: "Woman Worldwide" Tour of the Band Justice

Light up your festival season, Justice fans! Vincent Lerisson, the genius lighting designer for Justice, has snagged the second Opus 2019 award due to his remarkable and adaptable lighting design for the "Woman Worldwide Tour." As a permanent member of the band, Lerisson is no stranger to captivating audiences with astonishing light displays.

The show eschews traditional video content in favor of subtle, state-of-the-art technology like street lighting, multiple stage levels, and meticulous timing to create an engaging visual experience that harmonizes seamlessly with the music. Lerisson's pièce de résistance? Movable stage elements, adorned with mirrors, Chromlech Elidy, and video surfaces with a tight 6mm pixel pitch.

With amplifier walls reminiscent of rock concerts, the stage design delivers an efficient show that opens up the space and showcases the artists like never before.

The "Woman Worldwide Tour" has traversed multiple continents since its inception in Bogotá, Colombia, back in March 2018. Prepare for a spectacular visual and auricular experience with the continuation of this groundbreaking tour.

The Opus Award is presented annually at Prolight + Sound, the prestigious international trade fair for entertainment, media, and creative industries. This year's ceremony will take place on 04 April 2019, where representatives from Verband für Medien- und Veranstaltungstechnik e.V. (Association for Media and Event Technology - VPLT), the European Association of Event Centres (EVVC), industry experts, trade press, and Messe Frankfurt will gather to bestow the honor upon the award-winning projects in theater and stage production.

Brace yourself for an evening of mesmerizing performances and revolutionary stage designs! For more information on the Opus German Stage Prize, head over to their official website or contact the organizers directly.
